  8. <item><hi format=bold>Location and Origin of Name:</hi> two miles southeast of San Angelo, and named for Second Lieutenant John J. Goodfellow Jr who was killed in an aerial engagement with Fokkers near Thiaucourt, France on 14 September 1918

  10. <p>The base was established in 1940 as a pilot training school during World War II, and served in the primary training role postwar. It gradually increased a non-flying role with the assignment of cryptographic training, with flying activities finally ceasing in March 1975. Goodfellow currently undertakes technical training for personnel entering an intelligence career, including civilians, as well as a host of other non-flying specialities.
