<p>The base was established in 1940 as a pilot training school during World War II, and served in the primary training role postwar. It gradually increased a non-flying role with the assignment of cryptographic training, with flying activities finally ceasing in March 1975. Goodfellow currently undertakes technical training for personnel entering an intelligence career, including civilians, as well as a host of other non-flying specialities.
